Buddy Boxer is a 3-year-old neutered male Boxer with a big heart and an even bigger desire for a home to call his own. He is up to date on all his shots and has been patiently waiting in rescue for over 900 days, dreaming of the day he finds his forever family.

Buddy came to us from an elderly man who kept many dogs outside in the yard. Because of this background, Buddy didn’t always know what it meant to feel safe and secure, especially around food. In the beginning, he was protective over his meals, but with time, patience, structure, and love, he has made tremendous progress and has largely overcome this behavior. For his continued success, we do recommend crating or feeding separately if there is another dog in the home—at least at first—just to help set him up for success.

Due to his past, Buddy does have some trust issues. He needs a family who understands that slow and steady truly wins the race with him. Once he learns he can trust you, Buddy’s true personality shines: goofy, loving, eager to please, and full of Boxer charm.

Buddy is not just a pretty face—he’s smart, too! He has completed basic obedience and is currently in his 4th nosework class, which includes introduction to odor. He is an absolute rock star in class and loves having a “job” to do. This boy’s brain is just as busy as his body, and he thrives when given training, enrichment, and fun activities.

With other dogs, Buddy loves to play hard and can be quite energetic. He can also get a bit over-stimulated with people because he’s so excited and enthusiastic, but with consistent boundaries and guidance, he settles down nicely. He will do best with someone who can provide routine, consistent expectations, and plenty of exercise—both physical and mental.
